Commonly described as the ‘most open space’ of a house, the drawing-room design is the first room one walks into while entering the house, and so the drawing-room design tells a story of your entire home. Keeping it attractive with well-decorated walls and colours is essential.

The drawing room design is mainly used for entertainment and the guests. As said, it’s the first room to the front door, so that the guests cannot go directly inside without having to pass through. You can use it as an entertainment drawing room design, spend your free time, chat, relax; you may even have a dining space attached for the guests to be sited.

Drawing room design defines the personality of the owner. You can keep it tidy and straightforward, you can be highly creative, or you can be stormy enough to mix things and showcase your inborn style.

There are no rules when it comes to the drawing-room design and decor of a drawing-room. Everything comes down to the vibe and the tone you set that expresses your personality, and all of it might bring the place to life.

IF you’re designing your own house, you have the freedom of choosing all sorts of standard styles like the modern, minimal or contemporary styles, or you can have fun mixing the colours in your tasteful ways. You can plan it all out, keeping the budget and space in mind.

Firstly, start from scratch. Sit back, imagine, visualize the entire space, and move forward to the venture you are up to in designing your drawing-room. Beware, some styles can mismatch and would be awful to a lot of eyes. If you’re unsure of what the outcome would be, that you can always consult the professionals.

NOTE: DO NOT GO FOR AN OUTDATED AND WORN-OUT STYLE THAT DOES NOT GO WITH YOUR LIKING.

 SELECTING THE COLOUR SCHEME

Always go for the colours that give a calming effect and the ones you’d like to see every day. Most of the designers go for the 60-30-10 principle. According to the principle, you can choose at least three broad colours comprising 60 per cent primary colour, 30 per cent secondary colour, and 10 per cent accent colour.

Your primary colour must cover the majority of the drawing-room design space, like the walls and the sofa. The secondary colour must comprise the elements like draperies, small furniture, and the accent wall. And lastly, the smallest part of the colour scheme must include the artwork, cushions, pillows etc.

NOTE: Choosing colours can get tricky sometimes; kindly hire an expert if you do not have a fair idea of your drawing room’s look.

SELECTING THE WALLS

As you come home after a long and hard day of work, the walls and the colours are what is going to catch your eyes. So, picking a colour that is going to help you relax is essential. Not sure what drawing room colour you must go with? Soft colours? Bright? Vibrant? Monochrome or patterns? The choice is purely yours, but don’t worry, we will still guide you with the concept.

Picking the right colour for the right wall is quite a task, and if you do it right, half the battle is won in the decor process. If the room is smaller in size, use light colours to create that illusion of the space. And if the room is more prominent and broader, you can go wild with choosing the darker and the bolder colours and some patterns too that are vibrant.

Wall art, yes, the drawing-room design is incomplete without wall art. Choosing the right piece of wall art is essential and if you are thinking of hanging it above the sofa, make sure you pick the correct dimensions. The wall art should be ⅔ the width of the couch. If you are thinking of hanging the art on the window sides, make sure there is enough space so that the area looks uncluttered and clean.

Wherever the artwork is placed or hung, it shouldn’t be too high, and it must not be too small either.
